About
MJ Hughes Ltd started life as Structural Steel Installation Company when established in 2002, based in Maltby, South Yorkshire, we have a strong and proud heritage. We have been providing the Construction & Railway Electrification Industry with a complete assembly and installation service which has gathered momentum over the past 18 years. 
 
We have progressed our business onto many high-profile jobs including Plate Girder Bridges, Railway Bridges, Footbridges, Sign Gantries, Wind Turbine Towers, Sports Stadiums and in the last four years OLE upgrades on the TGW and WOE contracts. 
 

We provide fully qualified Construction Managers, Site Engineers, Site Managers, Site Supervisors, Erectors, Labourers and Plant Operatives competent to carry out first class work, with regards to installation, renewal and maintenance hand in hand with all necessary plant, tools and equipment for various projects, including but not limited to: 
  • The Assembly and Installation of Steel and precast structures 
  • Refurbishments and modifications to existing steel structures 
  • The Demolition/removal of existing permanent and temporary structures  
  • The installation of gantry steelwork for OLE works such as SSA & TTC 
  • Installation of all manner of Overhead Line SPS Including Switches & bespoke SPS arrangements 
  • OLE Registration work pre & post main conductor & ATF / RC wiring 
  • All aspects of wiring including auto tension Tensorex or balance weight assemblies or high radial load fixed systems on Tram lines 
We undertake the Production of Lift plans and RAMS if and when required, giving you a fully inclusive package from start to finish. 
We have a wealth of experience working on large scale, complex projects utilising varying materials and skills to achieve client requirements within tight programmes. 
Workforce

We currently employ 105 operatives of varying competencies; however this figure has been much higher from time to time in the last couple of years as demand has dictated more staff within the OLE construction element. 
We supply Construction Managers, Wiring Engineers & Field Engineers of OLEC 5 competence , Site Managers, Site Supervisors, Linesmen of OLEC 3 & 2 gradings with modules 3.1 to 3.6, Erectors, Labourers, Plant Operatives, Appointed Persons, Crane Supervisors, Slingers/Signallers, PTS Personnel.  
The qualifications held by our workforce are: 
  • OLEC 4 / 5 Managers & Engineers 
  • OLEC 2 & 3 (OLEC 3’s with correct modules for tasks required 3.1 to 3.6) 
  • CSCS/ECITB 
  • IPAF/IPAF+ 
  • CPCS/NPORS 
  • Harness Training 
  • PASMA  
  • SMSTS/SSSTS 
  • Coded Welders, Plater Welders 
  • PTS including AC/DCCR, ICI, COSS, IWA, OTP, First Aiders
